LONG ISLAND SOCCER PLAYER HALL OF FAME

About

About US
The Long Island Soccer Player Hall of Fame honors and inducts the most successful soccer players to ever come from or play on Long Island!

Many people in today’s Long Island soccer community do not know that Long Island used to be considered a “hot bed” of soccer in America. Many of the immigrant families that came from Europe and all over the world relocated to Long Island as the “first suburb in America,” and brought with them their rich soccer culture!

Long Island is home to some of the first soccer leagues in America (Long Island Soccer Football League) and one of the largest youth soccer leagues in America, the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL).

While Men’s soccer in America has a 100+ year history, providing us with dozens of male players to induct into the Player Hall of Fame, Long Island is also home to some of the first Female players to play professionally in America! And we are proud to honor the many women that had successful careers, even though, they didn’t always have a professional league to play in. Although, the same is true with the Men’s game. Soccer was seen as a “foreign sport” and had difficulty catching on in America.  So, there were many stops and starts for Men’s soccer over the past 100+ years too, where Men didn’t have a professional league to play in either.

Now. Soccer is the largest participatory sport in America and soccer can be seen on TV regularly, as well as many opportunities to see it live in a proper stadium all across America, because of the success and growth of Major League Soccer (MLS), United Soccer League (USL) and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

We hope you enjoy our site and see the many amazing soccer players that have come from Long Island or called it home!
